Our History

Clarence L. Boyd bought a hardware store in McLeansboro, IL one year after graduating high school. He visited Oklahoma for the first time in 1910 with his brothers Charles and Albert. Clarence and his brothers worked for Galion Iron Works when they arrived in Oklahoma.

Clarence Boyd moved his family to Enid, OK and formed The Clarence L. Boyd Company. Boyd’s Enid store provided office space and a shipping point to receive Galion shipments.

Clarence Boyd moved his operation from Enid to Guthrie, OK. Oklahoma was exploding with road building activity, so Clarence and his brothers started selling a line of horse-drawn graders, tumble-bug scrapers and horse hitches to the pioneer road builders.

The Clarence L. Boyd Company became the International Harvest Dealer for the western half of Oklahoma.

Frank Crews joined the company, marking the start of the Crews family lineage with The Clarence L. Boyd Company. Frank served as Boyd’s President from 1946-1962.

Robert Crews, Earl’s son, joined the company. Robert became Vice President of Boyd in 1979 and has been Boyd’s President and Chairman of the Board since December 31, 1982.

Robert Crews led the development and organization of Undercarriage Specialists, Inc. (USI). USI is an aftermarket parts company that provides aftermarket parts for all-makes of equipment.

Robert Crews, elected President and Chairman of the Board the previous year, led the company to a new era by accepting Deere’s offer to represent their construction equipment in 30 central western Oklahoma counties. The company, needing more facilities capacity, moved into its current location at 4220 W. Reno Avenue.

CL Boyd expanded retail opportunities by adding a full service branch in Lawton.

Jim Meisner, with 20 years experience in Cat dealerships, joined the Boyd team. Jim became a minority owner in 1993 and currently serves as the company’s Executive Vice President.
